How to Navigate the Draw Tool's Interactive Onboarding Tour

Learn how the Draw Tool’s built-in spotlight tour guides first‑time visitors through creating AI‑powered drill diagrams.

Intro

The Draw Tool is a public, AI‑powered drill design feature available at /draw. When you visit it for the first time (even without an account), an interactive onboarding tour automatically starts. This tour uses spotlight highlights to introduce key areas of the interface - the drawing canvas, the AI prompt input, and the generation controls - so you can start creating effective drill diagrams right away. The tour is designed to be quick, visual, and easy to follow, making it ideal for busy coaches who want to jump straight into designing.

Prerequisites

  • A device with internet access.
  • No account needed to start the tour. Anonymous guest access is automatically enabled.
  • For saving drills or accessing advanced features, you will need to create a free account.

Step-by-step

  1. Navigate to the Draw Tool Open your browser and go to /draw on your BallersBook instance. If you are not already authenticated, the system will sign you in anonymously and the tour will begin.

  2. Watch the first spotlight highlight The tour’s first spotlight focuses on the main drawing canvas. A brief tooltip will explain how you can manually draw shapes or place players on the field. Click Next or the highlighted area to proceed.

  3. Explore the AI prompt input The second spotlight shines on the AI prompt field. The tour explains that you can type a natural language description of a drill (for example, “4v4 possession in a 20x30 grid”) and the AI will generate a diagram. Optionally, you can also upload an existing image for the AI to analyze.

  4. See the Generate button and limits The third spotlight highlights the Generate button. The tour notes that anonymous guests have a limited number of free generations per day (configurable by the club admin). After the tour, you can use your first free generation right away.

  5. Review the Settings and model selection Depending on your role (guest or authenticated), the tour may also point to the Model Override dropdown, where you can switch AI providers or models. This step is optional and can be skipped.

  6. Complete the tour After the last spotlight, the tour ends with a Finish button. You can also dismiss the tour at any time by clicking Skip Tour in the top‑right corner of any tooltip.

💡 Tip: If you accidentally close the tour, you can restart it by clicking the ? help icon in the toolbar, then selecting Start Tour.

Tips & Pitfalls

  • The tour is designed for first‑time visitors only. Once completed, it will not automatically reappear unless you manually restart it.
  • Anonymous guests cannot save diagrams. To keep your work, create a free account before exiting the tool.
  • The daily generation limit for guests is set by your club’s global settings (typically three generations per day). After reaching the limit, you will be prompted to sign up.
  • The tour does not cover every feature; it focuses on the core workflow. For advanced features like multi‑layer diagrams or session integration, refer to the Draw Tool’s help section.

Summary

The interactive onboarding tour in the Draw Tool provides a fast, visual walkthrough of the main interface elements - canvas, AI prompt, generation controls, and settings. By completing the tour, you will be ready to create your first AI‑powered drill diagram in minutes. Next, try typing a simple drill description and clicking Generate to see the AI in action. When you are ready to save your work, click Sign Up to create a free account.
