How to Search and Filter the Drill Library

Learn how to search and filter the Drill Library by name, difficulty, age group, and drill type, and toggle between list and card views.

Intro

The Drill Library is your central hub for browsing and managing soccer drills. Whether you are preparing for a training session or looking for inspiration, BallersBook makes it easy to find exactly the drills you need. You can filter by difficulty, age group, and drill type, or quickly switch between a card grid and a compact list view. This guide walks you through all the search and filtering features of the Drill Library.

Prerequisites

  • A BallersBook user account (any role except ai-reviewer or ai-admin-reviewer)
  • Access to the Drill Library page (/library or /drills)

Step-by-step

  1. Log in to BallersBook and navigate to the Drill Library using the sidebar or the navigation menu. The library opens with a grid of drill cards and a search bar at the top.

  2. To filter drills by name, enter a keyword in the Search field at the top of the page. As you type, the list of drills updates automatically to show only matching results.

  3. Use the Difficulty dropdown to filter drills by their difficulty level (for example, Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced). Select the desired level to narrow down the results.

  4. Use the Age Group dropdown to filter drills by the recommended age bracket (such as U6, U8, U12, etc.). This helps you find age-appropriate exercises.

  5. Use the Drill Type dropdown to filter by the category of drill (e.g., Passing, Shooting, Defending). The library will display only drills that match your selection.

💡 Tip: All filters are cumulative. For example, you can search for “passing” drills that are “Intermediate” difficulty for age group “U12”.

  1. To toggle between the card grid and a compact list view, click the List View / Card View toggle button located in the search bar area. The default view is the card grid. Clicking the toggle switches to a table-style list that shows drill names, difficulty, and other details in rows. Click the toggle again to return to cards.

  2. Navigate through multiple pages of results using the Previous and Next buttons. These appear both above and below the drill list. The library displays nine drills per page.

Tips & Pitfalls

  • Club Admin only: If you are a Club Admin, you will see an additional toggle to switch between Global drills (system-wide) and Club drills (drills belonging only to your club). This toggle is hidden for non-admin users.
  • Guest users: If you are viewing the Drill Library as a guest (without logging in), you see only global drills. The search and filter features work the same way, but you cannot save, edit, or copy drills until you create a free account.
  • Filters reset on navigation: When you leave the Drill Library and return, your applied filters are cleared. You need to reapply them for a new search session.
  • Check pagination after filtering: If you apply filters and the result set is small, the pagination controls may hide. Use the Previous / Next buttons only when there are more than nine results.
  • Viewing drill details: Click View Details on any drill card or list row to open a modal with full information, coaching points, and actions like Edit, Diagram, or Copy Drill.

Summary

You now know how to search by name, filter by difficulty, age group, and drill type, and switch between list and card views in the Drill Library. These tools save you time when preparing session plans. Next, try combining filters with the Global vs. Club toggle (if you are an admin) to find drills that best fit your team.
