How to Browse the Team Roster and Filter Players

Learn how to view your squad, filter by group or season, search by name, and toggle between active and inactive players.

Intro

The team roster is the central hub for managing everyone in your club. Whether you are preparing for a match, planning training groups, or tracking player status, you need a quick way to find the right players. This guide shows you how to navigate the roster, apply filters, and show only the players you care about.

Prerequisites

  • A role with access to the Players section (e.g. Coach or Admin).
  • At least one player registered to your club (players are stored in the PLAYER collection with club_id matching your club).
  • Optional: Groups or Seasons already set up to filter by.

Step-by-step

  1. Log into your BallersBook account and navigate to the Players page. (If you don’t see this link, check with your club admin that your role has permission to view the roster.)

  2. The roster loads showing all players in your club by default. The list displays each player’s name, group assignment, and active status (an Active badge or icon).

  3. To filter by a specific Group, click the Group dropdown at the top of the page. Select one or more groups (e.g. “U12 Boys”, “Girls Academy”). The roster updates to show only players assigned to those groups.

💡 Tip: Groups are defined in the Groups manager. If you haven’t created any yet, the filter will be hidden or show “All”.

  1. To filter by Season, click the Season dropdown and choose an active season. This is useful when you have multiple seasons running (e.g. Fall 2026, Winter 2027). Only players linked to that season will appear.
  1. To search by name, type a few letters into the Search field. The list filters in real-time as you type, matching first name, last name, or full name.

  2. To view only active or only inactive players, look for the Active Status toggle or checkbox.

  • If the toggle is set to Active, only players with active: true in their record appear.
  • Switch to Inactive to see players who are no longer participating (e.g. transferred, graduated).
  • Choose All to clear the filter and show every player.

⚠️ Warning: Inactive players are still in the database. They will not appear in attendance or billing lists unless you reactivate them.

  1. Optionally, you can change the view between a card grid and a compact list using the View toggle in the top-right corner. (This works similarly to the Drill Library’s List / Card view.)

Tips & Pitfalls

  • Multiple filters stack. If you select “U12 Boys” and type “Smith”, only U12 Boys players whose name contains “Smith” show up.
  • Active vs. inactive is per-player. A player can be inactive in the system but still have past attendance records.
  • Group membership is stored as an array. A player can belong to multiple groups. The filter will include them if they are in any of the selected groups.
  • If no filters appear, you may need to create at least one group or season first. Check the Groups or Seasons management pages.

Summary

Now you can quickly browse your team roster, apply filters by group or season, search by name, and toggle between active and inactive players. This saves time when you need to communicate with a specific subset of players or verify who is currently participating. Next, try using the filtered list to send a message or create an attendance sheet.
