How to Handle the Warning Modal in the Season Practice Planner

Learn what to do when a warning appears in the Season Practice Planner, including reviewing draft sessions and adjusting season configurations.

Intro

The Season Practice Planner helps you generate and schedule training sessions across an entire season in one go. When you attempt to finalize or generate a plan with incomplete session drafts, missing player groups, or invalid season settings, a warning modal appears to prevent errors. This guide explains how to interpret that warning, review your draft sessions, and modify season configurations so you can proceed without losing progress.

Prerequisites

  • A valid Season with at least one group and a defined date range.
  • The manage_sessions permission (assigned to your role; see Permissions under Club Settings to verify).
  • At least one session draft created in the Season Practice Planner (e.g., from a template or manual entry).

Step-by-step

  1. Open the Season Practice Planner from the Seasons page. Click the season you want to plan, then click Plan Season or Generator.
  2. After reviewing your season settings and session templates, click Generate Plan or Finalize Plan.
  3. If the planner detects incomplete drafts or configuration issues, a warning modal appears. Read the message carefully - it will list what needs attention (e.g., “2 sessions are drafts”, “Start date is missing”).
  4. In the modal, you have two main options:
  • Review Drafts - Click this button to open the Session Library filtered to the draft sessions for this season. You can edit each draft (add drills, set duration, etc.) directly from the library.
  • Modify Configuration - Click this button to return to the Season Practice Planner configuration screen. Here you can adjust the season’s group assignments, session template, or date range.
  1. After making your changes, go back to the planner (the “Back to Planner” link in the navigation) and click Generate Plan again. The warning modal should now show a success message or no longer appear.

💡 Tip: If the warning says “Some sessions have no assigned group,” use Modify Configuration to ensure each group is linked to at least one session slot. You can also assign groups to individual sessions during the review step.

Tips & Pitfalls

  • Don’t ignore the warning. Skipping the review can lead to missing sessions in your calendar or duplicate plans. Always resolve the issue before proceeding.
  • Draft sessions count against your plan’s total. The planner treats unfinalized drafts as incomplete. Mark them as “Finalized” or remove them from the season before generating the final plan.
  • Season date range mismatches. If your season ends before the last session’s date, the modal will warn you. Adjust the season end date in Season Settings first.
  • Player availability conflicts. The planner does not automatically check player availability. If you see a warning about “missing player groups,” verify that each group has enough registered players using the Rosters page.
  • Permission errors. If the Generate Plan button is grayed out or the modal never appears, contact your club admin to ensure your role has manage_sessions enabled.

Summary

The warning modal in the Season Practice Planner is a safety net that catches common mistakes before they affect your season schedule. When it appears, choose Review Drafts to edit incomplete session records or Modify Configuration to adjust season-level settings. Correct the issue, return to the planner, and regenerate. Once the warning is cleared, your season practice plan will be ready to share with coaches and players.
