How to Register with SSO as an Invited User
Learn how invited users can quickly register for BallersBook using Google or Apple SSO, and how the system ensures only the intended recipient can accept the invite.
Intro
When your club invites a new coach, parent, or other staff member to join BallersBook, the easiest way for them to get started is to register using their existing Google or Apple account (single sign-on, or SSO). This saves them from remembering another password and speeds up onboarding. Behind the scenes, BallersBook verifies that the email address from their SSO account exactly matches the email on the original invite. This prevents someone else from accidentally or maliciously claiming the invite.
This guide walks invited users through the SSO registration process. You can share this page with your new members, or use it to assist them over the phone.
Prerequisites
- You must have received an invite email from your club (sent by a club admin or the system). The email contains a personalized registration link.
- The email address you used for your Google or Apple account must be the same email that the invite was sent to.
- A stable internet connection and a modern web browser (Chrome, Safari, Edge, or Firefox).
Step-by-step
-
Open the invite email in your inbox and click the Start Registration button (or the link provided). This opens a secure registration page that recognizes your invite token.
-
On the registration page, you will see two sign-on options. Click Sign up with Google or Sign up with Apple (depending on your preference). Do not use the “Email and Password” option if you want to use SSO.
💡 Tip: Using SSO is faster and more secure. Your password is managed by Google or Apple, so you don’t have to remember another one.
-
A pop-up or redirect will appear asking you to sign in to your Google or Apple account. Enter your credentials and authorize BallersBook to access your name and email address.
-
After a successful SSO login, the system automatically checks that the email returned by Google or Apple matches the email attached to the invite token. This verification happens in seconds and is invisible to you.
- If the emails match: the registration continues automatically.
- If the emails do not match: you will see an error message like “This invite is tied to a different email address. Please use the email that received the invite.”
-
Once the email is verified, you may be asked to complete your profile. Fill in any required fields such as your First Name and Last Name (prefilled from your SSO account), and optionally set a profile photo.
-
Click Complete Registration. The system creates your account, assigns you the role specified in the invite (e.g., Coach, Parent, Club Admin), and redirects you to the BallersBook dashboard.
Tips & Pitfalls
- If you don’t see the invite email in your inbox, check your Spam or Promotions folder. You can also ask the club admin to resend the invite from the Invites page.
- Make sure you are not already signed into a different Google/Apple account in your browser. Sign out first, or use a private/incognito window to avoid confusion.
- If the SSO email mismatch error appears, check which Google or Apple account you are using. You must sign in with the exact email address that the club admin entered when creating the invite.
- If you accidentally start the “Email and Password” registration instead of SSO, you can still complete it, but you will not be able to use SSO later unless you link the accounts in your profile settings.
- Club admins can view the status of all invites (including whether they have been accepted) from the Invites section under Club Settings.
Summary
By using Google or Apple SSO, invited users can register in just a few clicks without creating a new password. BallersBook automatically enforces email matching between the invite and the SSO provider, keeping your club’s membership secure. Once registered, the new user can immediately access the features allowed by their assigned role. If you are a club manager, share this guide with new invitees to make their onboarding as smooth as possible.
